If you want a personalized fitness program that’s effective and fun, consider a boot camp fitness center SLC. Boot camps are led by personal trainers and even though it’s a group activity, you get an individualized program. The trainer first learns your goals and special needs, such as physical limitations that might require modifying the program, like back problems. Then he or she assesses all four types of fitness; your endurance, strength, flexibility and balance. At that point, the trainer creates your personalized program.
There’s no feeling of being left behind or being bored waiting for others to catch up with you.
It’s not like your typical exercise class where everyone is doing exactly the same thing. Each person may look like they’re all exercising the same, but some will have more repetitions, more intensity or even a different form. For instance, the couch potato may be doing a bent knee form of push up, while everyone else is doing a regular one. Each person will struggle with their goals that are hard, but still safely within their capabilities.
So where does the fun come in during this sweaty workout?
Since everyone is struggling, even the very fit, there’s a lot of empathy and comradery. You’ll often see people high-fiving each other when they managed to reach their goal or cheering each other on to victory. It’s extremely motivating and while there’s a lot of interaction, it doesn’t distract from the main goals, getting stronger, improving range of motion, building endurance and improving balance.
Boot camps are a way to get the most for your exercising dollar.
Boot camps cost far less than private sessions with a trainer. That’s because everyone is sharing in the cost of the trainer’s time. That makes it far less per person. You still get all the benefits of having a trainer, too. Some people use boot camps to see if they want to use a personal trainer. Others rely exclusively on boot camps, signing up for the next one as soon as the first one ends.
- You’ll learn how to do each exercise right when you go to a boot camp. Not only does the trainer show you how to do it, he or she watches to make sure you have the right form. That helps prevent injury and maximizes the results.
- You’ll never be bored at a boot camp. The trainer varies the program. That also gives you a wealth of workouts you can do later and prevents plateauing if you’re trying to lose weight.
- You’re more apt to go to a boot camp because it’s a specific appointment with fitness. One reason people often fail at fitness programs is that it’s too easy to postpone workouts on your own.
- You’ll see results far faster when you work with a personal trainer. Some people use boot camps to jump start their workout program.
“I have known Taylor over the last 7-8 years, but didn’t think I needed The help of another nutritionist and trainer (because I have read plenty of books and have gone to the gym for the last 20 years, and have hired 3 other trainers), but I am glad I did!
I recently signed up for a fitness challenge within my neighborhood at the first of the year and wanted to make sure I had every advantage, so I got with Taylor and he wrote me out a exact roadmap of what to eat, the Portion size, the time to eat, what exact supplements I should eat, And why! He spelled out what exercises I should do on what days and for how long, with plenty of options. Yes I still had to commit to following the plan every day, but knowing that his plan was leading me to my goal gave me much more purpose and desire to stay the course.
I did a similar self motivating competition six years ago with a different trainer and it took me six months to lose 30 pounds (and I only had chicken broccoli and brown rice as my options, which got old quick!)
I lost 25 pounds With Taylor’s help in three months and I didn’t feel as restricted on my diet! There were many occasions I just needed questions answered so that I didn’t fail on my diet, and Taylor was always quick to respond and give me the council I needed.
I would highly recommend Taylor to anyone that needs nutritional guidance whether you are Just learning about what to eat to lose weight, or whether you’re experienced, and need some new ideas and challenges. Going from 190 to 165 pounds I feel 20 years younger, and fit in all of my clothes that have been sitting in my closet!! Taylor was worth every penny!!”
“I’ve taken many fitness classes from Taylor as well as some general nutrition advice. Taylor is outstanding at his job and is super passionate. His advice and hard work was a great help to me in my fitness journey. I count Taylor among the very best at what he does and would never hesitate to get and take his advice.”Over the past few years, Wes has burned over 100lbs of fat!
“Timing is everything! When the right mentor teaches the right student, both move toward their goals.
Everyone has stress and pressure in life, some long-term, some short-term. The long-term type can really sneak up on you and sabotage your health. I’d been going through some very stressful situations in 2014-2015, including caring for my mom through her illness (I had to fly to another state every Friday and back home every Sunday night), then work a full week in my job, fly out / return again, repeat. I was sleeping even less than usual (3 – 5 hours / night), was eating very poorly (undereating by 500-800 calories / day, eating leftovers from Mom’s hospital tray on the weekends), and getting NO exercise. Depression and anxiety added to the toll. I was 169 pounds (at 5’ 2” tall) and going up. I’d had a gym membership for decades but hadn’t used it in a couple of years. At this point, I was way too embarrassed about my fat and flab to go back to the gym!
But I had one great tool in my nearly-empty arsenal – I was pissed off and refused to continue to tolerate that body I saw in the mirror. After Mom passed away, I was determined to focus on my life. Motivation plus Inspiration equals Transformation!
I met Taylor a month before Mom died and began learning from him through his online training program a couple months later. I had a few sets of dumbbells at home and a reclining weight bench. He worked those into my program, which also included proper nutrition. At first, it was so hard to eat, eat, eat, to think about food so much, to track my macronutrients and micronutrients! I don’t do anything halfway, though, so I was “all in” the whole program – nutrition AND exercise. I’d been eating the same (poor) way for a long time and was going in the wrong direction FAST, so it only made sense to try something different.
In the first two months, I lost 10 pounds, noticed a real difference in how my clothes fit, and in my energy level. I felt better physically and psychologically, just from doing some body-weight resistance exercises at home and using the little exercise equipment I’d bought years before. I got to thinking, ”Wow, this happened in two months, with just a little equipment. I wonder what I could do training in person?” I was totally motivated and determined to give it a go, so finagled my finances, created some time in my busy life (I’m one of those always-say-yes people), and made it happen for an hour each week. I had expected the improvement in my health, but the surprise bonuses were that I was learning so much about physiology and nutrition, gaining confidence (a totally new feeling for me), discovering that I’m totally excited by working my butt off, and making a best friend in the process.
Taylor’s knowledge and certification in exercise rehab has been fabulously effective in light of my various injuries, both temporary and chronic. When I started with him, I’d had a bone spur surgery a couple years prior in my right shoulder that had never been properly rehabbed, and had a current rotator cuff impingement in the same shoulder. We worked on those patiently, with the right range of motion, the correct weights, and appropriate exercises. That shoulder is strong and perfect now. I also had a partially torn ligament in my right knee and a partially torn tendon in my right hamstring (both of which we learned about relatively recently). In spite of those “defects”, I’ve been able to expand my range of motion, improve my balance, and build muscle beyond anything I ever thought of.
Nearly every motivated student is the “right student”. Over these almost-two years, I’ve seen Taylor with many types of clients, beginners to advanced, young and old, injured and seemingly perfect, overweight and skinny, some chronically ill and some the picture of health. One thing he teaches better than any other trainer I’ve seen is correct form. He’ll show you the right way, tell you why this and why not that, and he will not let you do the exercise if you don’t have correct form first. I so respect that!
Taylor Empey is the “right mentor”. He’s taught me to listen to my body. Even though my enthusiasm and confidence may tell me to use a heavier barbell, or push through the pain, I now stop myself from progressing too fast in the interest of patiently pursuing my long-term goal for myself – constant improvement for long-term health. He’ll tell me the name of every muscle involved, because he knows I like that. I have a long-term goal for my community and world at large, too – to learn as much as possible so I can teach and “spread the good word of fitness”. Taylor is my generous mentor in those efforts as well.
Never have I met anyone more thoughtful, kind, or with higher integrity. Taylor constantly exemplifies the highest standards of his profession. Every minute of every day, I’m pleased and proud to call him my trainer, my teacher, my business partner, and best of all, my friend.”
“I’ve never lifted weights in my life – I’ve done straight cardio…love to run and do kickboxing…but I lost 4% body fat in the first 8 weeks! Taylor’s been really good knowing what I should be working on, knowing where I want to lose, how I want to lose, and he pushes me to my limits. That’s good because I need it. I now have self-discipline that I didn’t have before!”
“I was surprised how much of a workout I’m getting for myself! Taylor does a great job of pushing us… one of the best things is everything I’ve been able to learn. I feel like I can accomplish anything now!”
“One of my goals is to motivate my kids and show them I can be healthy and active. This opportunity could not come at a better time. I’ve been wanting this for the longest time and this is my year, and I’m going to be at my goal by the end of the year…When I’m done with a workout, I feel like ‘Yes! I did it! I accomplished something! I saw progress! Not just on the scale, not just in my clothes, but in the way I physically feel. I’ve adapted to this lifestyle of eating healthy, working out.
I’d never had a trainer before so, for me, it was like that extra push. I haven’t really exercised on my own – this is the first time. So when it came to the days I didn’t have a trainer, I don’t think I did as good as when I have a trainer, so I really enjoy that. They give you that extra push when they have that plan for you. It’s totally worth that extra push, that one-on-one. I don’t feel like I could do it on my own. I can go the gym now without being scared of the machines. I know what each machine does and I can work out on it on my own. That’s something I’ve learned.
If you can do it, do it! It’s totally worth it! It shows you a different level of fitness. It takes you from where you’re at to where you can be. For me, that’s the best part. In 12 weeks, I was able to do a pushup, and that was awesome. I love that! And inches – I lost around 4 inches on my waist. I can get into a size 12 dress now and when I started, I was a size 16, so that’s awesome. And I lost 20lbs in 14 weeks – 20lbs of fat! I’m grateful for this! I couldn’t do it on my own. If you can do it, do it.”
Taylor helped Fitness Trainer Lena Gibb with Anna’s exercise programming and nutritional planning, and conducted group training classes during The Younger You 12 Week Challenge.
“I’m very excited… It’s been the opportunity of a lifetime – I’m not letting my family down, I’m not letting myself down. I’m not quitting. It is a lifestyle change to get out, get moving, get healthy…. I accomplished this with more than just myself – I did it with my family and friends, and that’s what pushed me forward. Together we can.” Though Rowenna’s fitness journey began long before The Younger You 12 Week Challenge, she burned 20.4lbs of fat and gained 3lbs of muscle during the challenge! Taylor helped Fitness Trainer Lena Gibb with Rowenna’s exercise programming and nutritional planning, and conducted group training classes during The Younger You 12 Week Challenge.
“Between workouts, eating the right foods, eating at the right time, I’m excited to see what will work for my body…Even though I have a busy life, I continue to lose weight. Meal prep is everything when you’re busy…I really want this! It’s a life change, not just a 12-week challenge.”
At the end of 12 weeks, Katie burned 12lbs of fat and gained 4lbs of lean muscle! Taylor helped Fitness Trainer Lena Gibb with Katie’s exercise programming and nutritional planning, and conducted group training classes during The Younger You 12 Week Challenge.
“I usually find time to work out, but when someone’s counting on you to be there, it’s different. I lost 20 pounds in the first 8 weeks….I didn’t come here to quit – it’s a journey, a transformation. For me, that – in and of itself – is enough. There’s no limit to what Katie [Tom’s Wife] and I can accomplish together now.”
At the end of the 12 week challenge Tom burned 19.5 pounds body fat and lost 24.9lbs overall! Taylor helped Fitness Trainer Lena Gibb with Tom’s exercise programming and nutritional planning, and conducted group training classes during The Younger You 12 Week Challenge.
“There’s no way I could have done this by myself…can I just say I feel fabulous? I’m losing weight and gaining energy! I’m feeling pretty darn sexy…when I don’t eat on time, that’s when all my urges to eat bad foods come. As long a I stay on track, I’m not wanting the sugar and chips. Taylor is a phenomenal trainer! He’s working me out and making me strong!”
Johnette took part in the 12-week challenge with Taylor through “The Younger You” and at 46 years old she lost 23lbs of actual body fat in just 12 weeks!
“Taylor is beyond incredible, every day pushing me and helping me out, and responding if I have questions…really awesome and supportive….It’s empowering to say, ‘this is something I want, something I’m going to work toward’…I’ve been pushing and this is where I wanted to be. I wanted to keep going and I want to push harder…. I’m a better person, I understand my body better. I learned some incredible things. I see where I was before and I think, Wow, how did I let myself get there?
I did stress myself out, and there were some weeks when I didn’t lose as much as I wanted so I would stress even more… but I feel incredible now. My friends say I look skinnier. People at work are complimenting me. I’m going to keep it up, absolutely.
I’ve been there. I had a trainer before Taylor, who totally screwed me over….So I know exactly what you’re thinking – you’ve had a trainer and you haven’t been happy. There are trainers who are different. It’s so fun to have trainer that you can connect with, to see someone who’s really working hard. …The connection and the results – that’s probably my favorite part.
I was at the point in my life when I was very low on my self esteem and I wasn’t happy. I was really depressed and I needed to get motivated to get in shape. That’s why I contacted Taylor and said I just want someone who’s going to help me achieve things. I know that I can look the way I feel on the inside and I didn’t have the tools to get that.
Working with Taylor, I lost 11 pounds, which is pretty fantastic and I’ve gained 18 pounds of muscle, which is really good for losing that much body fat and adding lean mass. Those have been my results.
Other ways this has affected my life: my confidence, looking better, feeling better, just an everyday difference in my lifestyle. I don’t have to hate myself for the things that I eat, because they’re something I should be eating. So I don’t have that constant voice saying “I shouldn’t be eating this.” It IS what I’m supposed to be eating because this is what my body needs. I have that day-to-day change of happiness and peace in my life. I’ve gotten results and at the same time, I trust him so I think you should trust him too.”
“When I started becoming fit and getting into fitness, I hit a plateau before I started working out with Taylor. He was able to give me the initial boost I needed to re-energize my attitude toward fitness and becoming fit. That’s what I was initially looking for in finding a trainer. What I found in Taylor was that he was able to get me over that threshold and encouraged me to come in and train day after day.
When I first started training with Taylor, he really helped re-energize the ambition I had to become fit again. I’d gotten discouraged with the way my body was looking, with my all-around physicality. He really helped set me up with a program that I both enjoyed and saw results from. He tailored it to my eating habits, the amount of time I wanted to work out, the activities I like to do. He helped recharge my ambition.
I think everybody hits a plateau. I don’t care if you’re a bodybuilder or if you’ve never worked out before, I think everyone hits a spot where, whatever they’re putting into exercise, fitness, and diet, they just aren’t seeing the same results they did initially.
I think what is most beneficial is seeking a professional’s opinion on what you could be doing to switch up your program in not only your diet but your exercise program as well. That’s what I saw in working out with Taylor. His initial advice and that initial plan that he tailored for me – which we tweaked a little bit as I saw more and more change – helped me get through that initial blockade that I was in with not seeing results on my own.
I think the most important change I’ve seen in myself since training with Taylor is self-esteem. I’ve always been a very confident person, but it’s given me a whole new outlook on my energy level, on the way look at myself, on the way other people look at me. That’s a far more positive result than just what I’ve seen with my body. I’m also at my lowest body fat I’ve ever been, I’m bigger measurement-wise than I’ve been. All around, it’s an overall improvement both emotionally and physically.
Since training with Taylor, I have a desire to workout again. I look forward to every day coming down to the gym and putting in at least an hour workout. It’s now part of my daily routine, whereas before I was working out with Taylor, I would find any excuse not to come to the gym, not to workout. Now it’s something I desire, something I know is going to help me de-stress from work. I’ve seen the results in my body, in my physicality. I have more energy during cardio and in everyday life.”
“This time last year, I decided I was going to change my image. I dedicated a lot of my time going to the gym working my butt off to achieve a certain goal: To get toned and increase muscle mass. It was not easy as the classes were intense and made my muscles shake and my body sweating like crazy. In all that madness, what kept me going was my motivation. My motivation was to stop considering myself weak and hating myself for it, as well as, stopping those who looked down on me. I needed to show those who were strong than I was that I will be stronger than they will ever be because of that motivation.
Within the year, I have succeeded in toning within 6 months of joining the gym and have had a personal trainer help me with techniques and muscle growth. Along the way I found a passion of working out, not just a forcing factor to meet my goal, but as a new lifestyle. I started to actually looking forward to my workouts because they brought a sense of accomplishment whenever I had a bad day or even a good day. I have made friends along the way that have cheered me on, and return cheered them on and we gave each other a sense of encouragement, even though we were extremely tired and had barely any strength left over to finish our workouts.
In the end, I am happier than I have ever been in a long time. Shockingly, I have started hating myself less than I had before. I am surrounded by people who understand what I have been going through and have supported me this past year.
After all this time, I would like to give a few special thanks. First, I would like to thank those who have looked down on me, rejected me, and those who made me invisible in their daily lives. Without you, I would never have started working my way to where I am now.
Second, I would like to give thanks to my family and friends. I know I could sound like a gym rat at times but thanks for being there anyways. I am thankful for the all the compliments, teases, jokes, and for the times of just hanging, cause we all know I need a break every now and then.
Third, I would like to give a BIG special thanks to Lena Gibb, Taylor Empey, Monika McKamey, and Mindy McCutcheon Cline. You have put me through hell and back every time I have attended one of your classes. You guys pushed me to a limit that I could not excel on my own and gave me insane workouts that not any normal person can handle… and I am not kidding, you guys are insane (lol). But in the end I am glad to have formed friendships with all of you, you guys are the greatest…”
“I have been going to the gym for six months now and I wanted to show you that I have been through some incredible changes. It’s been very exciting working hard on my body, my business, and my life as well. Thank you all for being so supportive through these changes, some of which have been very drastic.
I can remember, almost six months ago looking at my body and thinking about how much I had let myself go, and I am extremely humbled by the effort I’ve had to put in to turn myself around. It was very hard at first to get over the embarrassment of letting myself slip away, but now I am stronger, I am happier, and I want to say thank you for checking out this hot body I have carved out.
A special thanks to Taylor for training me in the initial months of my transformation, if you have thought about getting a trainer, I highly recommend his guidance and knowledge.
If you haven’t had an experience you liked with a trainer, than you have got to meet Taylor. This guy made meal plans and exercise routines customized to my life and my goals. This guy cares that you reach those goals by helping keep you accountable and on track.
Friendly, determined, knowledgeable, and in great shape himself, Taylor is my trainer…is he yours?”
“I hired Taylor as my personal trainer in February of 2012 and saw immediate results. He is efficient, knowledgeable, creative, honest, full of energy, and truly knows what he is doing. He helped me attain unimaginable results and helped me transform my physical health as well as helped me to develop a healthy mindset and outlook. Through supporting me as a personal trainer, Taylor also taught me crucial skills that have played into my personal life as well as my professional life. You get results with Taylor because he will never let you fail.” I grew up, like most girls, feeling very insecure about myself and my body. i was tall, gangly, always tripping over myself, not too good at sports, struggled with some subjects in school, had “friends” who made me feel worse about myself, and while i was extremely happy and well-loved by my family, internally i felt broken.
As the years progressed, so did my insecurities. when i looked in the mirror, i saw a version of myself that i didn’t like, a version that nobody else saw. i always focused on my imperfections, my flaws, my insecurities, and my weaknesses. that self-deprecating attitude and behavior led to a lot of self-loathing that i was really successful at hiding. though i didn’t feel it, i was told that i put off an air of confidence and strength. i must have been very good at faking it because i didn’t like who or what i saw in the mirror.
I struggled with body image issues and sought gratification and validation through unhealthy routes. relationships with people and food became toxic and when i’d start to feel worse about myself and my choices, i’d binge and purge. i did this for years, hiding bulimia from family and friends, and i came to hate and distrust myself even more.
Amazing doctors and therapists stepped in to help what was not a make or break moment. i wasn’t skin and bones and withering away, physically. i was mentally. they helped me stop the bulimia. but i still wasn’t happy.
As more and more weight would pile on, so did the temptation to resort back to the bulimia. i’d do the smart thing, from time to time, and exercise and cut out junk food and fast food, but i wasn’t consistent. i’d cut calories, cut fat, limit carbohydrates, starve myself for days on end, and i even went so far as to do several rounds of the hcg diet. trust me, people, that diet is the worst possible thing you could do for yourself. though i lost a lot of weight, i learned absolutely nothing. i ate 500 calories a day, felt happier to see shrinking thighs but struggled with my energy and ultimately put on the 40 pounds i lost, plus an addition 15 pounds. it was hell. sorry, mom, i know you don’t like that word…but i was living in my own version of hell. i was back to totally hating myself and flirting with shoving that finger down my throat after every meal.
I hit my breaking point at about 180 pounds, my highest weight, ever. i was struggling to fit into my size 14 and size 16 pants and i’d squeeze into spanx to help things fit better. i’m pear shaped and am totally glute/abcentric with where i carry my weight, so my face and arms stayed slim. it was easy to hide the rest of me while still giving off the impression that i wasn’t as big as i really was. but all the spanx and smiles couldn’t hide what was really under there. i started getting my nutrition back in check and began running and doing home workout dvds. i lost 15 pounds. that would be awesome for most people, but i wanted better results.
That’s where my hero came into play.
I swallowed my pride, joined my local gym and signed up for my free fitness consultation with a trainer. i knew i was committed. i knew getting my life and body back on track was my priority, and i knew that i needed to find someone that i could trust to help me with that. that person was Taylor Empey.
We trained together for 15 months. i saw amazing progress with my body, but an even greater sense of accomplishment with my mind and life. Taylor went the extra mile and truly became my life coach. helping me with everything from relationship advice to career mentoring, Taylor has coached me into succeeding. In training with Taylor I went from a size 14 to a 4!
most of us have dreams of what we want to do with our lives and careers. most of us stay asleep in those dreams. Taylor opened his eyes and has made his dream a reality by going into business for himself to help transform not just bodies but lives. though i will miss him pushing me in the gym, i’m grateful that the lessons he taught me are forever imprinted in my mind and i’m even more grateful to be involved in this next phase of his life and career.
You don’t have to be living in Utah to benefit from his wisdom, experience, and his amazing story of transformation…you can work with him from wherever you are.
You’ve heard my story. you’ve seen my results. you’ve seen what Taylor Empey is capable of. why not see what you are capable of with his help? whether you are interested in signing up for coaching packages, or you want to benefit from his free content, there’s no better time to start writing your own success story.” – Dori Knight
During my training sessions, he was always focused on me. He corrected anything that I was doing improperly. He offered genuine encouragement when needed. But he didn’t shy away from having fun too. We had a lot of laughs!”My time spent training with Taylor Empey has been an amazing learning experience. I’ve worked with him for over a year. I was in good shape when I started due to an active lifestyle and work, plus great genes. But I had issues with certain parts of my body that I simply didn’t know how to address. Taylor is extremely knowledgeable. After getting as much information from me as he could, he designed a program with my goals in mind while taking into account certain physical limitations. With his teaching me the correct forms to use, I was able to successfully incorporate many exercises into my routine that targeted my issues. I was pleased to see my strength and size develop as a result of this.
Taylor always had information available covering almost any question I might ask. If he didn’t have it, he found out for me. He was available via text or email outside my regular session as well. That’s handy when you have a question but aren’t scheduled to see him for several days or more.
As important as his training expertise is his compassion for his clients. I had emotional meltdowns on several occasions. He truly cared about that. He listened and offered support. That’s something I never expected out of a personal trainer.
I’ve had to take a break from my training for several reasons, but Taylor was and will always be the man I go to. I wouldn’t train with anybody else.” – Kent Weigle (Olympian, National Figure Skating Champion, & Professional Figure Skating Coach).
“Taylor is atruly awesome dude and has helped me a lot and went out of his way to give me some solid advice about Fitness and Health. I Highly recommend this dude to anyone that needs help getting fit and healthy. Malo from NZ.”
“Taylor is an outstanding Personal Trainer, team member, leader and friend. He has a great work ethic and is always willing to go out of his way to assist his team members and managers without expectations. I endorse Taylor and would trust him with whatever endeavor or task asked of him.” – Brandon Rogers
